We have a range of DI boxes ready for immediate hire from our unit in Redruth.
Hire individual DI boxes, or hire as part of a bigger PA Package. We stock a range of industry standard brands, such as Radial, Orchid, and Klark Technik. Meaning we can meet most rider requirements.
What is a DI Box?
A DI box helps to match the output level of an audio signal to a microphone level. It converts an unbalanced to a balanced output signal. Almost all instruments with pickups have an unbalanced output level. Microphones, on the other hand, have a balanced level. And since most mixing desks are made for balanced “microphone” signals, this means that an unbalanced signal should be converted into a balanced one. DI Boxes also help to suppresses groundloops and humming noise.
Do I need an active or passive DI Box?
There are 2 types of DI boxes: Active DI boxes, and passive DI boxes.
Choosing an active or passive one for your instrument depends on the output level of the instrument itself.
As a rule of thumb: If the source is active, such as a keyboard or an acoustic guitar with built in preamp, we recommend a passive di box. If the source is passive, such as an electric guitar, a Fender bass, a Rhodes e-piano or an acoustic guitar with a piezo pickup, we recommend an active di box.
We supply both active and passive DI boxes, so we can be sure to meet your requirements.
